How to pull off a taupe lippie

Hello Loves!

I’m obsessed with matte lips lately. I love how they stay on all day and don’t even budge! Today I’m sharing a perfect fall lippie, Anastasia Beverly Hills  liquid lipstick in the shade, Sepia. It’s a gorgeous taupe shade which is something I don’t normally grab when shopping for lipsticks. You might ask, “who would wear this grayish-brown lipstick?” Well, I’m here to show you how to pull it off the right way!

If you’re going to wear a taupe lipstick, the face should be pretty simple but adding warmth and glow to the skin so you don’t look like death has come upon you. You can either do light makeup on the eyes, such as liner and mascara, or pair it with a little more drama. Of course I had to be a little bold!

Here are the steps on how I achieved this look:

  1. I always start with a clean and moisturized face.
  2. Apply your favorite primer. I applied Cover FX illuminating primer.
  3. After letting that sink into your skin, apply your foundation. I love Maybelline Fit Me Matte foundation. I’m in the shade 120.
  4. To conceal and brighten my under eyes, I applied M.A.C. Pro Longwear concealer in the shade, NC30 and I immediately set it with Ben Nye Cameo powder to prevent creasing.
  5. I set the rest of my face with a light dusting of it Cosmetics Bye Bye Pores Micro Powder to ensure my foundation lasts all day.
  6. To contour and add warmth, I blended Benefit Hoola Bronzer on the hollows of my cheeks and around the perimeter of my face. I added a little color to my cheeks using Milani Berry Amore Blush.
  7. My favorite part has to be highlighting! I applied Anastasia Beverly Hills Starlight illuminator to all of the high points on my face, especially the cheekbones.
  8. Lastly, I spritzed my face with M.A.C. Fix + to make my skin dewy and glowy.

  1. Apply your favorite eye shadow primer. I used Benefit Stay Don’t Stray.
  2. Using the Tarte Cosmetics NeutralEYES: Volume III palette, I started with Sand as a base.
  3. I blended Tan in the crease as a transition shade.
  4. I darkened the crease and outer corner with Taupe and a little bit of Chocolate.
  5. I applied the shade, Pewter on the lid and Moss in the inner corner of the eye to brighten.
  6. I created a wing using Jesses Girl Liquid eyeliner. I rimmed the water line with Urban Decay Demolition liner.
  7. On the lower lash line, I swept the shade Sage for a little hint of color.
  8. I applied Starlight illuminator to the inner corners of my eyes and on the brow bone.
  9. I coated my lashes with Mally Beauty volumizing mascara and applied Shop Cura Lashes in the style, Sweet Pea.

When using matte liquid lipsticks, you want to make sure you exfoliate your lips. You can use sugar and a little bit of water to rub off any dead skin and make your lips super soft. You can apply a very light layer of lip balm or a lip primer to add moisture back into your lips, then continue to apply your liquid lipstick.
